Learning a new language can possibly turn out a very interesting but very difficult thing to accomplish because it implies a big pile of work as you begin your learning in order to part from the right foot. learning to speak Italian is something which can be fun and enormously useful at a later stage of your life, but it’s hard work to get there and you are going to have to invest time if it’s really what you want. Should you be trying to learn Italian, the fastest way to success is simply using our modern technologies to improve the speed and quality of your learning tremendously. New media like the computer employ effectively media such as photographs or sound files which books and classic media do not offer in the goal of teaching you, and these additions make your study more interesting, less boring and of course more effective, because each new category of media file used in your study will help you remember the key points of this idiom remarkably. What I would do is the Rocket Italian course since it integrates many lessons, different exercises and little games to learn better, and what’s best of all is that this program will support you when you get better in Italian with fun and motivation since it doesn’t rely on traditional methods of textbooks.

language study, also in Italian, always includes beginning your journey in a natural way, because a language is a natural construct used by the mind to communicate. This is what is difficult for many people to understand, and all of us have a special way of studying a new idiom. A universally approved and effective method can’t be found, and you will have to find out how you can most easily accomplish this. Naturally there exist some key points of information which have to be respected by everyone regardless of the language he is learning.

At the first you shall start off by entering in Italian culture. This is how we ensure that you grow accustomed to its sound, pronunciation, and flow. It’s crucial to follow this guideline by watching TV in Italian language and also radio so you get a sense of the nature of this language. Understanding even a single word is not requires, the only importance goes to becoming familiar with the sound.

Then you can move on to studying the structure of single sentences and exercising your pronunciation. This is significant too because it will allow you to actively employ the Italian language where you can start expressing yourself. You have to construct a primary vocabulary of Italian sentences and words to be confident talking to others in Italian. As soon as you’ve done that, a first look at grammar is acceptable, and it’s nowhere as complicated as you thought as you already have some knowledge of the language and you know how it feels, so a lot of theory won’t be difficult to remember as you have used them already without being aware of it. That’s a pretty effective method in three phases which should really help make it in any case a lot easier for you, so do it one after the other and you’ll be fine!

As you may be aware one of Lunchpail Books popular children’s books “Peep Peep Finds a Friend” is available in English, Spanish, Italian, French and Chinese. Translating is not an easy task, for there are many nuances within each language that can easily be missed. It was somewhat comforting to know that I was not the only one who had challenges with translating. Here are some classic examples of mistranslations… please note– these blunders work both ways… translating to and from English.

* Chinese:
o The name Coca-Cola in China was first rendered as Ke-kou-ke-la. Unfortunately, the Coke company did not discover until after thousands of signs had been printed that the phrase means “bite the wax tadpole” or “female horse stuffed with wax” depending on the dialect. Coke then researched 40,000 Chinese characters and found a close phonetic equivalent, ko-kou-ko-le, which can be loosely translated as “happiness in the mouth”.
o When translated into Chinese, the Kentucky Fried Chicken slogan “finger-lickin’ good” came out as “eat your fingers off”.
o In a Hong Kong supermarket: “For your convenience, we recommend courageous, efficient self-service”.
o Outside a Hong Kong tailor’s shop: “Ladies may have a fit upstairs”.
o In an advertisement by a Hong Kong dentist: “Teeth extracted by the latest Methodists”.
o On the box of a clockwork toy made in Hong Kong: “Guaranteed to work throughout its useful life”.
*

* French:
o Hunt-Wesson introduced its Big John products in French Canada as Gros Jos before finding out that the phrase, in slang, means “big breasts”. In this case, however, the name problem did not have a noticeable effect on sales.
o Colgate introduced a toothpaste in France called Cue, the name of a notorious porno mag.
o

o In a Paris hotel elevator: Please leave your values at the front desk.
o Outside a Paris dress shop: Dresses for street walking.
o In a Bed & Breakfast in France: The genuine antics in your room come from our family castle. Long life to it.
o In a Bed & Breakfast in France: Please avoid coca watering, cream cleaning, wet towels wrapping, and ironing drying.

* Italian:
o In Italy, a campaign for Schweppes Tonic Water translated the name into Schweppes Toilet Water.
o Instructions on a packet of convenience food from Italy: “Besmear a backing pan, previously buttered with a good tomato sauce, and, after, dispose the cannelloni, lightly distanced between them in a only couch.”
o In a Rome laundry: Ladies, leave your clothes here and spend the afternoon having a good time.
o Italian/Italy: In a Rome laundry: Ladies, leave your clothes here and spend the afternoon having a good time.
* Japanese:
o The American slogan for Salem cigarettes, “Salem – Feeling Free,” got translated in the Japanese market into “When smoking Salem, you feel so refreshed that your mind seems to be free and empty”.
o Japan’s second-largest tourist agency was mystified when it entered English-speaking markets and began receiving requests for unusual sex tours. Upon finding out why, the owners of Kinki Nippon Tourist Company changed its name.
o A warning to motorists in Tokyo: “When a passenger of the foot heave in sight, tootle the horn. Trumpet at him melodiously at first, but if he still obstacles your passage, then tootle him with vigor.”.
o Panasonic developed a complete Japanese Web browser, and to make the system user-friendly, licensed the cartoon character Woody Woodpecker as the “Internet guide.” Panasonic eventually planned on a world version of the product. The day before the ads were to be released, Panasonic decided to delay the product launch indefinately. The reason: an American staff member at the internal product launch explained to the stunned and embarrassed Japanese what the ad’s slogan, “Touch Woody – The Internet Pecker”, might mean to English speakers.

Italy is among the oldest and most fascinating European countries, with art and architecture are second to none. Italian language schools are located throughout Italy, from world-famous Venice and Milan in northern Italy to historic Taormina and Otranto in the south. Choice of location is one of the most important factors in deciding which language school to attend. Without a doubt, time spent outside the language classroom is at least as important as time spent in class. In larger cities, language programs typically emphasise amenities and activities but, depending on the size of the program, can neglect individual student attention. While there may be no shortage of cultural activities and museum visits, intimate cultural experiences are more likely to occur in smaller towns and villages. It is also much easier to fall back on speaking English in large cities, which of course defeats your original purpose entirely!

Throughout Italy, English is less spoken in smaller towns and villages than in cities. In such locations, it is almost impossible not to speak the language you’re there to study. Generally, people in the more rural areas of Italy will be quite honored that you’ve chosen to learn Italian in their home town and will be more welcoming, making it easier to establish lasting friendships and feel right at home.

The type of Italian language program you choose will of course be determined partly by your specific needs. There are many different types of program offered by language schools in Italy, including general Italian, Italian for business, Italian for academic studies, and Italian for art courses, music, design and culinary arts.

Whichever program you choose, there are several features to look for which are shared by all good programs: flexible, communicative instruction methodologies, a friendly atmosphere, personal attention, enthusiastic and qualified teachers, small groups. Depending on your requirements, the program should also provide a language qualification recognised by national and international colleges and universities.

In summary, to get the most out of an Italian language program in Italy, look for schools with small groups, qualified native-speaking teachers and programs providing plenty of individual attention. Cultural programs including excursions and activities are important, but they should not substitute for real language learning which occurs best in smaller groups and more intimate contexts. Whatever happens during your time in Italy, the most important thing is that you thoroughly enjoy the language learning experience! You will learn much better if you are happy with your program and enjoying yourself!
